Role Purpose

The Finance and Accounting Manager provides broad, hands-on support across the Finance function, acting as a central point of coordination between Payroll & Expenses, Purchase Ledger, Credit Control, Credit Risk, and Finance & Accounting.

The role is designed to strengthen capacity within the senior finance team, providing a reliable and knowledgeable point of support across core finance operations and ensuring continuity, strong financial control, and timely, high‑quality responses to ad-hoc queries from the wider business.

The post holder will combine strong technical finance knowledge with excellent organisational, communication, and problem‑solving skills. They will be expected to work independently, exercise sound judgement, and confidently manage a wide range of unplanned requests while contributing to continuous improvement across finance processes.

Role Responsibilities

1. Finance Leadership Support & Senior Cover• Act as a trusted extension of the Head of Finance and Accounting, providing hands on operational, analytical, and organisational support across the Finance function.• Prepare, review, interpret, and consolidate financial information and analysis to support management decision making.• Deputise for the Head of Finance and Accounting where appropriate, ensuring continuity of service, timely issue resolution, and effective stakeholder management.

2. Financial Governance, Audit & Assurance• Lead the statutory audit process end to end, coordinating internal and external stakeholders to ensure timely delivery and resolution of issues.• Prepare Statutory Financial Statements for all companies in line with applicable standards and Group requirements.• Lead internal controls testing and compliance activities, coordinating remediation actions and reporting outcomes to Group.• Support ongoing compliance with accounting, tax, payroll, and regulatory requirements, acting as a central point of coordination for assurance related queries.

3. Financial Analysis, Reporting & Insight• Coordinate inputs across Finance teams in relation to Balance Sheet items for management reporting, forecasts, and ad hoc business information requests.• Deliver high quality financial analysis and insight, including but not limited to working capital, receivables, payroll, and cash flow impacts.• Support reconciliations, reporting, and analytical reviews across Finance functions to ensure accuracy, consistency, and control.

4. Credit Control, Credit Risk, Payroll & Expenses Support• Provide cross functional finance support spanning Credit Control, Credit Risk, Payroll, and Expenses, particularly during peak periods, year end, and periods of absence.• Act as a knowledgeable escalation point for complex queries, supporting reconciliations, provisioning, reporting, and audit requests.• Liaise with internal stakeholders and external providers to resolve issues efficiently and maintain strong operational controls.

5. Business Partnering, Query Resolution & Coordination• Act as a first line senior finance contact for a wide range of ad hoc queries from across the business.• Triage, prioritise, and resolve requests independently where appropriate, escalating efficiently when specialist input is required.• Translate finance information into clear, practical, and commercially focused guidance for non finance stakeholders.

6. Process Improvement & Finance Transformation• Identify and drive opportunities to improve efficiency, accuracy, resilience, and control across finance processes.• Support the documentation, communication, and continuous improvement of finance policies, procedures, and controls.• Contribute to finance transformation initiatives and cross functional projects aligned with wider business objectives.

Person Specification

Qualifications and Experience:

Educated to degree level in Finance, Accounting, Business, or a related discipline (or equivalent practical experience).
Qualified (ACA / ACCA / CIMA or equivalent).
Proven experience working within a finance environment, ideally with exposure to payroll, accounting, credit control, credit risk, or working capital.
Experience of working with financial systems and strong Microsoft Excel skills; SAP experience desirable.
